Calcavio ("we," "us," or "our") runs calcavio.com (the "Site"). Specifically, it's a free library of personal-finance calculators. We built it on one idea: you shouldn't have to hand over personal details just to run the numbers on a money decision. So this Privacy Policy keeps things simple. It explains what we collect, what we don't, how any data gets used, and the choices you have. In short, this Privacy Policy covers the whole Site - every calculator, article, and page. It does not cover other websites we link to, though. Those run their own policies.

What this Privacy Policy covers

TL;DR

This Privacy Policy applies to everyone who visits, wherever you are. By using Calcavio, you agree to the practices below. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site. Also, we wrote it in plain English on purpose. After all, a privacy policy you can't understand isn't much of a promise.

How our calculators actually work

Here's the part most finance sites can't say honestly. Our calculators run right in your browser. So when you enter your income, a loan balance, or a savings goal, the math happens on your own device. Those figures aren't sent to us. They aren't stored on our servers. And they aren't logged on our side. Put simply, we can't sell, share, or lose what we never receive.

Close the tab, and the numbers are gone. The one exception is when your browser saves a recent entry locally, just for your convenience. Still, one caveat is worth stating plainly. The advertising and analytics tools on the Site collect standard usage data, like most free websites do. That data is separate from the values you type into a calculator.

What we deliberately don't do

Some promises are easier to keep when you design for them from the start. So here's what we avoid on purpose:

• We don't make you create an account to use a calculator.
• We don't store the income, debt, or goal figures you enter.
• We don't sell the personal information you send us.
• We don't run pop-ups that trade your result for your data.

In other words, this isn't legal window-dressing. Instead, it's the design principle the whole Site runs on.

What information we collect

In short, we group the data into three kinds. First, what you type into a calculator. Second, what's collected automatically. Third, what you send us directly. Let's take them one at a time.

Information you enter into a calculator (stays on your device)

Specifically, this means your income, debts, rates, and goals. As noted above, it stays local to your browser and never reaches us. Some tools may use your browser's storage to remember a recent entry, so you don't have to retype it. Even then, that data lives on your device. You can clear it any time in your browser settings.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, we receive some technical data when you visit. For example, that includes your IP address, often shortened or anonymized. It also covers your browser type, your device and operating system, the page that referred you, and the pages you view. On top of that, we can infer a rough location from your IP. Usually that's at the country or city level, not a precise address. We use cookies to collect some of this.

Information you give us directly

Sometimes you reach out to us. If you contact us through our Contact page or by email, we receive what you send. That's usually your name, your email address, and your message. In turn, we use it only to reply, and sometimes to improve the Site.

How we use cookies

In plain terms, cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners use them for a few reasons. First, to keep the Site working. Second, to understand how it's used. Third, for advertising partners, to show and measure ads. Some cookies are strictly necessary. Others are optional, and we set them only where you allow it. You can control cookies in your browser. In some regions, you can also use the consent banner shown on your first visit. Just note that blocking some cookies may change how parts of the Site work. Advertising, including Google AdSense

Calcavio is free because advertising pays for it. So we use Google AdSense, and we may use other trusted ad networks too. Here are a few things worth knowing:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits.
• Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners show you ads across the web.
• You can opt out of personalized ads through Google's Ads Settings (My Ad Center). You can also opt out of many vendors at aboutads.info, or at youronlinechoices.eu in Europe.
• If you're in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we show a consent message first. It uses a certified Consent Management Platform, in line with Google's EU user consent policy, the ePrivacy Directive, and the GDPR.

One promise never changes, though. Ads have no effect on the numbers a calculator gives you.

How we use analytics

We also use privacy-respecting analytics, such as Google Analytics. Mainly, this helps us see which pages are useful and where to improve. These tools rely on cookies and the automatic data above, viewed in aggregate. Where we can, we turn on IP anonymization and similar settings. And if you'd rather opt out entirely, you can use Google's browser opt-out add-on.

How we use your information

So what do we actually do with the little we collect? Mainly these things:

• Run, maintain, and secure the Site.
• See how our calculators and articles perform, then improve them.
• Show and measure the ads that keep the Site free.
• Reply to your questions and feedback.
• Meet legal duties and enforce our Terms.

Notably, we don't use the figures you enter into calculators for any of this. That's because we never receive them.

Our legal bases (for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on three legal bases. First, your consent, for non-essential cookies and personalized ads. Second, our legitimate interests, in running a secure and useful site. Third, legal obligation, when the law requires it. Of course, you can withdraw consent any time in the cookie settings.

How and when we share information

To be clear, we don't sell the personal information you send us. Instead, we share limited data in only a few cases. For instance, with service providers who help run the Site, such as hosting and security, under contract. We also share with advertising partners, as described above. And we may share with authorities when the law requires it, or to protect people and the Site. One note for clarity: under some laws, letting ad cookies run can count as "sharing" or a "sale." Your choices about that appear under your rights below.

How long we keep information

As a rule, we keep things only as long as we need them. For example, contact messages stay until we handle your request, plus a short period after. Analytics data follows our provider's settings, usually in aggregate. Meanwhile, advertising partners keep data on their own schedules. As for the figures you enter into calculators, we don't keep them at all.

How we protect your information

To be clear, we use reasonable safeguards to protect the limited data we handle. These include HTTPS encryption, access controls, and trusted providers. Still, no method is ever completely secure. So we can't promise absolute security. That said, keeping calculations on your own device is one of our strongest safeguards.

International data transfers

At times, we and our partners may process data outside your country, including in the United States. When the law requires it, those transfers rely on proper safeguards. For example, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or an equivalent.

Your privacy rights and choices

Naturally, your rights depend on where you live. Either way, we aim to honor reasonable requests.

EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Here, you have several rights. You can access your data, correct it, or erase it. You can also restrict or object to processing, ask for portability, and withdraw consent. On top of that, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

Likewise, California residents get similar protections. For instance, you can know what we collect and how we use it. You can also correct or delete your information. Importantly, you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, including cross-context behavioral advertising. You can limit the use of sensitive data too. Finally, we won't treat you differently for using these rights, and we don't knowingly sell personal information for money.

How to exercise your rights

Ready to act? Just contact us through our Contact page, or at privacy@calcavio.com. Then we'll respond within the time your law allows. We may first need to verify your identity. Rest assured, we won't charge you for a reasonable request.

Children's privacy

Calcavio isn't meant for children under 13, or the minimum age in your country. As a result, we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us. We'll delete it.

"Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control

Currently, browsers handle "Do Not Track" differently, and there's still no common standard. Because of that, we don't respond to DNT signals directly. Even so, where the law requires it, we do honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a valid opt-out of sale or sharing.

Like most sites, our Site links to other pages and sources. Keep in mind that we don't control them. So we aren't responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Always read their policies before you share anything with them.
